The law that makes an employer liable to pay compensation when a worker is injured or killed in the course of employment. Liable means the duty to pay rests on the employer.
The duty to pay does not depend on fault. If the injury arose out of the work and happened during the work, compensation is owed.
An employer is liable for workers engaged through a contractor, not only those on its own payroll. This matters on any site that runs both its own staff and contract labour.
Covered. The policy pays the medical costs and the wages lost while the worker is off work. It is not only for the worst injuries.
Generally not covered. The exception is workers whose job is travel, such as drivers and field staff. For them the vehicle or the road is their workplace.
Excluded. But the duty to prove it was deliberate sits with the employer, not the worker. Without that proof, compensation is owed.
A worker aged 30, earning ₹20,000 a month, loses a hand on site. Your liability under the Act is about ₹11,23,000. The figure moves with the worker's age and with the injury suffered.
The same worker dies in a factory accident. Your liability is about ₹15,59,850. A younger worker costs more, because the Act pays a higher multiple when more working years are lost.
